Hollywood can’t get enough of mixed martial arts it seems.
Rich Franklin’s life is going to be the subject of a new film from Double E Pictures and Motion Theory, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Eric Eisner’s Double E Pictures and Motion Theory have optioned the life rights to Franklin’s story, and set David Hollander (The Cleaner, The Guardian) to pen the script.
Eisner will produce American Fighter with Motion Theory’s Sean Sorensen.
“I’m excited to see the story of my career as a fighter brought to the screen, and I feel confident that the team assembled will do a great job in telling this story,” Franklin said.
The film, titled American Fighter, will tell the story of how Franklin taught himself martial arts and went from a high school math teacher to UFC middleweight champion.
It’s unknown who will play Franklin in the film, but he does have some acting experience from his roles in Cyborg Soldier, The Genesis Code and Hamill (the movie about Matt Hamill’s life) so maybe playing himself is a possibility.
