Fight announcements for UFC 139 are beginning to trickle out again as the UFC announced a pair of match-ups in the past 24 hours.
First up, Martin Kampmann will return to action against Rick Story on the card. Kampmann is coming off consecutive losses to Jake Shields and Diego Sanchez which likely puts him in a must-win situation. Meanwhile, just when Rick Story was beginning to make a name for himself, he took a fight on short notice against Nate Marquardt only to have the rug pulled out from under him at the last minute which resulted in a loss to Charlie Brenneman at UFC on Versus 4. This fight with Kampmann gives him the opportunity to put that behind him and restart his climb up the welterweight ladder.
A lightweight bout between Rafael dos Anjos and Gleison Tibau was also announced. Dos Anjos is coming off a big win over George Sotiropolous while Tibau is coming off a pair of victories over Rafaello Oliveira and Kurt Pellegrino.
And last but not least is Jon Fitch. Nothing is official yet, but Fitch has been medically cleared to fight following shoulder surgery and he wants to fight at UFC 139 in San Jose where he trains out of. Notably, Fitch has dropped his demand to only fight “main eventers” and says he’ll fight whoever they put in front of him. Who that will be, if he does indeed make it on this card, isn’t certain yet, but one name floating out there is Johny Hendricks.
