Not that is was likely to happen anyways, but we can now officially rule out Stephan Bonnar as a potential opponent for Josh Koscheck at UFC 139. Reason being: Bonnar is fighting Kyle Kingsbury at UFC 139 instead. The UFC announced the fight earlier today.
“Verbal agreements are in for a fight that promises non-stop action as Kyle Kingsbury will take on the ‘American Psycho’ Stephan Bonnar at UFC 139,” said UFC president Dana White today.
Kingsbury has been on a tear lately, racking up four straight wins against Razak Al-Hassan, Jared Hamman, Ricardo Romero and Fabio Maldonado. Meanwhile, Bonnar rebounded from a three-fight losing streak with recent wins over Krzysztof Soszynski and Igor Pokrajac. The winner won’t find themselves in the title picture, but it definitely has the potential to be a bloody war.
Another light heavyweight bout was also announced for UFC 139 today. Ryan Bader will look to end his two-fight skid against Jason Brilz. I don’t want to say this is a must-win fight for Bader, but it’s definitely one he needs to win to get his career back on track.
A heavyweight championship bout between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos is still expected to headline the card, but the UFC hasn’t made the fight official yet. Not sure what the hold up is.
