A broken hand has forced Diego Sanchez out of his co-main event bout with Matt Hughes at UFC 135. Dana White broke the news on Twitter earlier today.
Diego Sanchez broke his hand. Looking for a replacement for Hughes.
It’s not official yet, but it looks like Sanchez’s replacement will be Josh Koscheck. He told USA Today that he agreed to the bout as soon as it was offered and plans to knock out Hughes.
They contacted me maybe about two hours ago. They obviously called my manager and my manager called me, and I said, “Yeah, let’s take it.” … I’m not going in this thing to just take a fight. I’m going in this to knock Matt Hughes out. If he takes the fight, I’m going in this to win the fight.
Hughes still has to accept the fight before it’s official, but I can’t imagine he would turn it down. We’ll let you know either way though when word comes through.
As for Koscheck’s middleweight plans, he says he’s still open to it if he can get a big fight, but for now, it looks like he’s going to fight at 170.

Update: Diego Sanchez is heartbroken over the situation.
“I am heartbroken that I have to inform MMA fans that I cannot fight Matt Hughes at UFC 135 later this month,” Sanchez expressed through a press release. “I have never physically felt more prepared to compete than I felt for this fight, which makes this even more painful for me.
“While I do not know right now when I will return, I want to assure all of the fans out there that I will be back in the Octagon as soon as I am 100 percent healthy.”
Still no word on Hughes.
