Nick Diaz Lost Out On Potential Seven-Figure Payday For Missing UFC 137 Press Conferences

It was reported that Nick Diaz took a substantial pay cut when he got dropped from his UFC welterweight title fight against Georges St. Pierre to a co-main event bout against BJ Penn at UFC 137.

Well, according to Dave Meltzer (via BE), the rumors were true and substantial isn’t quite the word. Like GSP, Nick was scheduled to get a cut of the pay-per-view revenue that could have been worth seven-figures. Yes, we’re talking a million plus dollars.

When he failed to show for the press conferences and lost the GSP fight, he also lost the pay-per-view deal. With the Penn bout, Meltzer believes Nick will only make “slightly more than he would have made had he fought Tyron Woodley in Strikeforce.” It’s unclear how much that would have been, but it’s likely somewhere in the neighborhood of the $175,000 he made fighting Paul Daley. Not a bad payday by any stretch of the imagination, but still a far cry from $1M+.

If that doesn’t convince Nick Diaz to stop blowing off media obligations, I’m not sure what will.
