“Far be it from me to question the UFC, that’s not what I am doing, but I just have my opinion. Chael Sonnen had his chance, put on a great performance but lost. Got tapped out, got finished, and then after that he failed a steroids test. As far as I can see he had his chance and he blew it… I feel I deserve a shot. I have got to beat Miller, he is tough, I am not looking past him. [But] its me, I’m the contender. Belfort has just been beat, Yushin Okami has just been beat, Sonnen got beat. What are they going to do, all they all going to keep beating each other up and then having another shot at him? No, I’m the contender.”
— Michael Bisping telling Fighters Only that he should be the number one contender in the middleweight division
Michael Bisping has come close to getting into title contention, but losses to veterans Dan Henderson and Wanderlei Silva derailed his title aspirations on two occasions. He’s now on a three-fight win streak with wins over Dan Miller, Yoshihiro Akiyama and Jorge Rivera. If he beats Mayhem Miller, I’m sure Dana White will put him “in the mix,” but I think he still needs a decisive victory over an elite middleweight to get his shot. Timing could be an issue, but putting him against Vitor Belfort while Chael Sonnen rematches Anderson Silva could be a solution.
