Jim Miller and Melvin Guillard, two recent top contenders in the lightweight division, just fell short of nabbing a title shot against Frankie Edgar.
Heartbreaking no doubt, but the UFC has offered them a consolation prize — a headlining bout on the UFC’s first ever FX fight night card.
The main event for the UFC’s first FX event in January promises to be one to remember, as lightweight contenders Jim Miller and Melvin Guillard square off in a venue to be announced.
“Two of the top ranked lightweights in the UFC have verbally agreed to square off in the main event on FX, as top ten ranked Jim Miller takes on explosive fan favorite Melvin ‘The Young Assassin’ Guillard,” said UFC President Dana White.
Despite its main event status, the fight is only scheduled for three rounds, according to the UFC’s Twitter feed.
It’s still not official, but UFC on FX 1 is expected to take place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on Jan. 20.
