Dan Henderson Doesn’t Want To Wait For Jones-Evans Winner After All

It turns out Dan Henderson doesn’t want to wait to fight the Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans winner after all.

Dana White said last week that he did, but Hendo recently told ESPN he said no such thing.

“That was never what I said or anything. I don’t know who said that, but it wasn’t me. My thoughts were I was waiting to see what happened with Rashad [Evans] and Phil Davis. That was the only thing I was going to wait for.”

He may not want to sit on the sidelines, but Hendo also realizes the problem with wanting to fight. There’s really no one to fight that makes sense.

“Obviously you can’t guarantee that nobody gets hurt. I don’t know what the plan is, but I’d fight whoever it is they think would be a good match-up. The problem is there’s really nobody right now who fits the bill for a title contention fight, that would make sense to fight me. I don’t know. Maybe I’d fight at a different weight class. I don’t know if they see anybody at heavyweight that would make sense? But I would prefer to fight someone in April or May.”

The reporter asked Hendo if he would be interested in fighting the Rampage Jackson vs. Ryan Bader winner. Hendo showed interest in it, but wasn’t sure if the timing would work out.

It’s an idea, but fighting at a different weight class probably makes more sense at this point. The last thing the UFC wants to do is risk eliminating Hendo from light heavyweight title contention right now.

Any ideas who Hendo should fight?

Wtf? Fight Machida dude! He called him out and everything. Plus he just fought for the belt so that makes him a worthy competitor at 205.

    • Anonymous

Machida is 1-3 last 4 fights while hendo is 4-0. U see the difference?

      • Chris890266

Anyone think Hendo v Victor Belfort at either middle weight or a catch weight? after that foot to the face from the spider tho he hasnt been the same. Or how about shogun v hendo. guys with enormous numbers of fights and titles. thats the one i think wud be most plausible. it would put hendo in the lime light and set him up for a run at the light heavyweight champ

Machida is such a boring fighter to. A guy like Hendo is so hype-able if he has the right opponents but that fight would generate zero noteriety. Bisping or Munoz would be dope depending on how long munoz is out. Werdum would make sense if he seriously wants to fight a heavyweight. The LHW is pretty weak right now though. You cnat hype a title fight cause aint nobody beatin Jones and there are zero contenders.

      • C dizzle

You’re a boring fighter! Machida’s still a top competitor at 205 and just because he lost to the top guys in the world doesn’t mean he can’t beat Dan Henderson.

        • i like sexy time

The only fight i see that can be hyped is alexander gustafsson when he gets past Nogueira but thats in April. 205 is the most weakest division in my eyes. They need to do TUF for this division quick time!

The BEST fight for, well the fans would be Hendo v Jon Bones Jones who is obviously going to put down Evans. If machida can kick evans in the face and turn him into a limp fish gasping for air on the mat. Imagine what jones’ elbows knees, clinch and most of all striking will do to evans. Ya Evans is a great wrestler, but DO NOT underestimate Jones’ ground game. Evans fights standing up the fight is over in three rounds tops. on the ground it might stretch further. Hendo wants the best fighter in the World. he beat Fedor and countless other people considered number one. if he wants the best i suggust either a catch-weight fight jones v hendo. or a middle weight fight hendo v Anderson Silva. If u want to be the BEST in the world u gotta go after the pound for pound best. I hope hendo takes either down, and more importantly i hope either fight happens. If Hendo can put down either of those fighters I would consider Hendo the new Randy Cutoure.

Bisping rematch would be awsome. I think Bispings really turned it on since his last fight against Hendo and granted Bisping engages Hendo in this fight, which he has been doing much more of in recent fights, it  could be a standup war. If not we will at least we get to see Bisping get knocked out again.

perhaps the winner of Gustafson-little nog but I realize the timing sucks sinse UFC Sweden is in april.
Maybe he could fight Phil Davies. If Davies wins he’s right back in the upper slots and if Hendo beats him his got the title shot.
Or he could drop down to MW and fight Bisping or Okami. Okami fights in late Feb and perhaps he’ll be rdy for another fight in late april or may.
But the winner of Bade-Rampage still sounds like the best option.

Phil davis would be brutal though. Theres no way he would be able to take hendo down with hendos grekoroman backround and Davis striking is not quite on hendersons level to say the least.

Maybe werdum since he wants to fight at heavyweight

    • Chris890266

or bigfoot, or Cain Valasques. but if he fights Cain than he better be serious about committing to heavyweight

  • Quardy

Toooooo easy… a rematch with Little Nogueira fits the bill! Silva sign the papers!

  • Rb_

If I could pick, hendo vs belfort at middleweight, makes sense because if hendo chose to fight at middleweight he would be up there for that title shot to, and it could be good timing as well.

    • i like sexy time

      Belforts doing TUF my friend.

      • Chris890266

faber and cruz are doing ultimate fighter.. unless u mean next season

  • Mtherri

He should fight vitor belfort at 185

  • Spitcity

Houston Alexander won his last fight get him back in ufc

  • Matt Silliman

Honestly, I can’t see him taking a fight at 185. Say he loses at 185 then you really wanna see him get a shot at the 205 belt?

The only thing that makes sense is a fight at HW or wait.

What I would love to see is a Hendo vs. Fedor rematch in Japan. They could have a bunch of pride fighters on the card. Wandy vs Belfort. Big Nog vs. Hunt (assuming Hunt wins his next fight)

I know that will never happen so my pick for hendo’s next fight would be…..axe murderer at a catch weight.

Wanderlei’s booked right now. Everybody who’s worth fighting is busy right now except for Phil Davis and Lyoto Machida. I don’t think it would be that crazy to have Hendo fight Machida because I know that fight would be awesome and plus they’ve never fought before. As for Phil Davis, I think he should fight the winner of the Rampage-Bader fight.

      • Matt Silliman

I agree that everyone worth fighting is booked right now. Machida makes the most logicall sense, but his track record as of late is terrible. Doesn’t this look odd:

        Questionable decision over Shogun
        Destroyed by Shogun
        Beat by rampage
        victory over Randy
        Submitted by Jon Jones
        #1 contender fight with Hendo?

Although he looked decent against Jones before the sub, and his decision against Rampage could have gone his way (except Rampage scored with octagon control, weird how that works out). I can’t see a fighter with a current streak of 1-3 in his last 4 fights, fighting Hendo for a chance at the a title shot. However the UFC can find a way to promote that.

        • Ed Lib

but machida would kick Hendo ass. But if Hendo wins, he gets his shot…but if Machida wins, he keeps himself in the mix, not to fight for the title again right away

        • Ed Lib

          questionable decision over rampage

    • Chris890266

Hendo v Cormier. i really like the way this cormier guy fights and his victory over Bigfoot was very impressive. Cormier is a name that shud be much more well known, lets hope we get him into the ufc soon. And for that matter where the hell is gilbert melendez to go take that goofballs title? ne one? dana white? wutchu thinkin man? El- nino has a bagillion fans. and hes training partners with shields and diaz. Let the right people into the ufc and titles will change very quickly. except mayb Aldo’s. hes crazy good. mayb pound for pound best. anderson silva lost some points when sonnen had him beat through 4 and a half rounds only to lose by a triangle joke. This means he’s human and i think sonnen will end up with his belt sometime in 2012. as far as if the juice head nut ball deserves it ? well if he pounds the spider, as much as an idiot he makes him self out to be it will be earned

  • naro

Give him Thiago Silva that would be awsome and nobody cares about silva – pojkarac anyway

  • Fil

Rematch with Shogun! Shogun was ROBBED! And he will avenge that terrible decision! Shogun vs Hendo 2, I say!

OF COURSE MAN! HE HAS TO FACE STRIKEFORCE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION DANIEL CORMIER , INSTEAD OF CORMIER FIGHTING JOSH BARNETT , DANIEL CORMIER VS DAN HENDERSON WOULD BE AN AMAZING FIGHT !
