Observations from My Couch: UFC on FX 2 ‘Alves vs. Kampmann’

A few observations from UFC on FX 2: “Alves vs. Kampmann”:

-Shawn Jordan versus Oli Thompson was like watching two “bros” fight in the backyard during a neighborhood barbecue. Which is to say, it was fun, but come on. Bro.

-Unable to get a decent headbutt in, Mackens Semerzier was doomed to lose.

-When TJ Waldburger nailed that sweet armbar, I had the strong urge to reward him with a Scooby Snack.

-Next stop on the Steve “Miller Killer” Siler Express: a fight with Jim Miller, then a go at middleweight Dan Miller.

-At some point Joe Silva is going to run out of softballs to toss at Anthony Perosh. Then what?

-James Te Huna is fun to watch. Very, very fun.

-It was only a matter of time before Court McGee’s reliance on his iron chin and intensity in later rounds caught up with him. Props to Costa Philippou for having the accuracy and power to ding the TUF winner up.

-The only thing that would’ve made the outcome of the Demetrious Johnson/Ian McCall fight more comedic was a pie fight spontaneously breaking out during the post-fight presser. Seriously? A mistake by the commission and a draw? That’s an episode of Benny Hill right there.

-So much for Shooto champs.

-I’m not going to say Thiago Alves looked good, because he was definitely slower than the striking beast we first came to love, but he didn’t look bad banging Martin Kampmann up. However, he looked downright awful giving that fight away.
