A key welterweight contest is being targeted for UFC 149 this summer, as Jon Fitch and Aaron Simpson appear on a collision course, according to a report by MMA Weekly’s Damon Martin.
UFC 149 is set to take place July 21 from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Fitch-Simpson would likely be part of the main card, which will include a title defense by UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
Fitch (23-4-1) was knocked out by Johny Hendricks last year, shocking many around the MMA world. That loss came on the heels of a draw with BJ Penn.
Simpson (11-3) will be making his debut at welterweight after dropping down from middleweight following a defeat at the hands of Ronny Markes. Simpson had been on a three-fight win streak prior to the loss to Markes.
This could be an interesting bout, as Fitch needs a rebound-win in a big way, while Simpson will want to make a statement in his debut at in the weight class.
