Shinya Aoki and Eddie Alvarez will meet in a rematch four years in the making this Friday night. The two will square off in the main event of Bellator 66 on MTV2 from Cleveland.
Back in 2008, Aoki locked in a heel-hook and submitted Alvarez. While Alvarez is coming off a loss to Michael Chandler, this is still a bout between two fighters who are a combined 52-8 in their MMA career.
During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Aoki talked about his vicious submissions. While fighting in Japan, Aoki has been viewed as somewhat of a bad boy, holding submissions on longer than he’s needed to, which has resulted in broken bones for his opponents.
It doesn’t bother me when I feel my opponents’ bones break. But I’m not aiming to break the bones. I’m just looking to win.
This is a match that many have been looking forward to. With Alvarez coming off the loss, it will be interesting to see how he responds, while Aoki will be competing away from the comforts of his native land.
