Hector Lombard is now the former Bellator Fighting Championships middleweight champion.
That’s because Lombard is headed to the UFC, the Cuban-Australian fighter confirmed via Twitter on Tuesday.
“I am in the UFC it is official,” Lombard posted.
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said in an earlier interview that his fight promotion had received a contract offer for Lombard from the UFC. Rebney said they would decide quickly if Bellator would match the deal presented.
A former Olympian in Judoka, Lombard sports an impressive 31-2-1 record with one no-contest in his career. He has not lost since a 2006 decision defeat at the hands of Gegard Mousasi.
Lombard last competed for Bellator in November, defeating Trevor Prangley via second round TKO. The 34-year-old owns 17 career knockout victories and seven submission triumphs.
