UFC light heavyweight contender Dan Henderson was a recent guest on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani when he was asked why he feels fans don’t take to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
I think it all has to do with being genuine and the fans sense that; when you are and when you’re not. I’m pretty much who I am all the time and I don’t know if they get that impression from him.
Henderson and Jones are set to meet later this year for the belt. “Bones” recently defeated Rashad Evans – his third title defense over a former champion – while “Hendo” has been off since a win in late 2011 over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Henderson admitted he doesn’t know Jones personally, adding, “so I can’t really say if (his attitude) his genuine or not. It’s just the impression that I think fans get.”
Regardless of what fans think of Jones, or how Henderson feels, the former Strikeforce champion will need to be at his best when he steps inside the Octagon with Jones. Rumprs have Henderson-Jones a possibility for UFC 149 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in July.
