Frank Mir Believes Alistair Overeem Deserves A Second Chance In The UFC

Alistair Overeem found out he’ll have several more months to think about his decision that took him out of a planned UFC heavyweight title shot with Junior dos Santos.

Overeem received a nine-month suspension – which will run until late in December – for taking testosterone that led to a failed drug test.

Mir was announced as the replacement for Overeem, taking his spot in May against dos Santos at UFC 146. During a recent appearance on “UFC Tonight,” Mir talked about Overeem and if he deserved another chance with the UFC.

I believe he should get a second chance. Everyone makes mistakes. We all do things we’re not proud of. If he follows all the stringent testing, and jumps through the hoops the Nevada State Athletic Commission tells him to, yeah, he should come back. He’s a fierce competitor. I think he deserves to be in the Octagon.

Mir, a former champion himself, has reeled off some impressive victories as of late. Among them are a submission triumph over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, the mentor and training partner of “Cigano.”
