Josh Koscheck is set to take on Johny Hendricks in an intriguing welterweight contest in the co-main event of the May 5 UFC on FOX 3 card.
Koscheck (17-5) has won 15 of his 20 bouts inside the Octagon, including recent wins over Matt Hughes and Mike Pierce.
In Hendricks (12-1), “Kos” will be taking on another foe looking to make a name for himself against the one-time UFC welterweight title contender.
“Right now, there’s a lot of good young fighters in the welterweight division that definitely intrigue me,” said Koscheck, during the pre-fight press conference for UFC on FOX recently. “And obviously, there’s two champions at this division.”
UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre and interim champion Carlos Condit are scheduled to meet later this year, so each match won by another welterweight gets them a little closer to the title.
Hendricks defeated Koscheck’s teammate, Jon Fitch, in his last bout, so there will be plenty of interest by Koscheck to redeem his friend. However, the power of Hendricks might just be too much.
