Now, Guida gets former contender Gray Maynard in a key bout at UFC on FX 4. The card is set for June 22 from Atlantic City and will be the main event.
That means we can potentially see five rounds of “The Carpenter” and “The Bully” battling it out inside the Octagon.
Guida, in a recent interview with MMA Fighting’s Luke Thomas, discussed why he feels his style of wrestling will be too much for Maynard’s style to handle.
“I think mine (wrestling) is a little bit more in your face, a little bit more wild attack and his is conservative – but very high level,” Guida said. “He gets a blast double legs. He has a very good single leg and he doesn’t miss takedowns very much. When he shoots, he puts you on your butt. I think he’s gonna come out and try and knock my head off and he’s gonna try to put us on our back.”
While Guida lost his last fight to Henderson, Maynard is also coming off a defeat at the hands of Frankie Edgar, the former champion in the division.
This has a potential fight of the year luster to it. Both Guida and Maynard are highly skilled wrestlers, but both have no problems standing and trading, as well. Expect five rounds and 25 minutes of intense action between these two.
