Nate Diaz Earns Lightweight Title Shot

At tonight’s UFC on FOX 3 event, where Nate Diaz and Johny Hendricks were both, as Dana White had previously stated, fighting for a shot at the title, both men were victorious. As it stands now, it is expected that both men will receive title shots, but just moments ago at the presser, Dana White confirmed at least one of the title hopeful’s wishes would be granted.

When pressed about the lightweight title picture following Nate’s win, and the potential #1 contender bout with Anthony Pettis that had been rumored, Dana had this to say:

Nate will wait for winner of Henderson-Edgar and not fight Anthony Pettis

Ben Henderson vs Frankie Edgar II is tentatively schedule for August, so it will still remain to be seen whether or not the younger Diaz brother will want to wait for the title shot, or take another fight in the meantime, but for now, that’s where he stands.

That’s odd. Diaz vs. Pettis makes more sense than just giving it to Nate considering Henderson-Edgar 2 won’t be till later this summer.

why, what has pettis done? 1 knockout? he needs atleast 1 more win before a contender bout…  nate is way above him why would he lower himself.

He also has a win over the current ufc champion and if mate is on such a higher level why not fight a lesser opponent(your thoughts not mine) why not collect another paycheck rather than sitting around and waiting

      ……..”don’t be scared homie”

You really dOnt like the Diaz brothers do you?

I really don’t but what I said has nothing to do with that,to me it seems a little dumb that any fighter would wait around for a title shot when it is so far away unless its 1000% guaranteed and set in stone, let’s take a look back at the situation with rashad and how many more fights he had to take after being promised a title shot, its ok with me if mate wants to wait and risk that but why not add to his record and be sure he is without a doubt next in line and at the same time make some money

no… anthony pettis gets 1 knockout and he deserves a title shot? think so he needs to be tested against a top 5 first. im sure diaz would fight for interm belt, so if anthony got a finish i could see it happening.

So if Anthony needs to tested why not against diaz, diaz isn’t getting an interim belt because interim belts are only used if thr champion in the division is out for a year or more I believe,Ben is still fighting so no need for an interim belt

Lets not forget that guida beat diaz. They should have the winner of the maynard vs guida fight fight diaz

please nate vs hendo or edgar will be a better fight than guida vs any of them.
