Urijah Faber found out Monday that he will not face Dominick Cruz for the UFC bantamweight title at UFC 148 in July.
Cruz, who defeated Faber last year, suffered a torn ACL and will be on the sidelines for several months.
So, like most fighters do in this “social media” world we live in, Faber posted a video discussing what he thinks should happen next.
“I’m just waiting to hear what happens. I’m thinking an interim title, he’s been out almost a year-and-a-half now once this surgery goes through, and it’s going to be another nine months, so I’m hoping for a top contender. Renan Barao in my opinion is next up, Michael McDonald after that, and Ivan Menjivar after that, so I’m just waiting to see.”
Barao and Menjivar are scheduled for the same July 7 weekend, so they are both preparing for a fight and in training. McDonald recently knocked out Miguel Torres, but he could move right into a fight, as well.
Faber added that he feels for Cruz, saying, “It sucks for everybody. Especially myself and Dominick and I wish him a speedy recovery.”
With the card just under two months away, the UFC will likely move quickly, as the Faber-Cruz bout was the co-main event.
