UFC president Dana White was a guest on “UFC Tonight” this past Tuesday evening, and the boss gave us some more details on the torn ACL suffered by UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz.
White also revealed that Urijah Faber would remain on the UFC 148 card, facing an unnamed opponent for the interim title. Rumors have targeted Renan Barao as the likely opponent, as the rising star is scheduled to face Ivan Menjivar on the same night. Menjivar has also been mentioned, along with Michael McDonald.
Dominick was training, not with his team, but for the fight with Faber, and he blew his ACL. Typically, when you blow the ACL, it’s nine months (to recover). Look at GSP (Georges St-Pierre). He’s an absolute professional and is in amazing shape. He does everything he’s supposed to and he’s out for nine months.
Cruz was scheduled to defend his title against Faber at UFC 148 on July 7 from Las Vegas. That fight has been called off, but Cruz will remain as coach on The Ultimate Fighter: Live opposite Cruz.
Cruz and Faber have fought twice before, with each man earning a win over the other. “The Dominator” stopped Faber last year in defense of his belt, earning a decision victory.
