Renan Barao has been rumored as the most likely candidate to fight opposite Urijah Faber in July for the interim UFC bantamweight title following the torn ACL suffered by Dominick Cruz.
Barao is currently scheduled to face Ivan Menjivar – another candidate – at UFC 148 on July 7 from Las Vegas.
However, with Cruz out of the planned co-main event with Faber, and “The California Kid” still in need of an opponent, it is possible Barao takes that spot.
“It would be great,” said Barao, in a recent interview with the Brazilian news outlet Tatame. “Actually, I fight any guy (the) UFC tells me to. I’m prepared and I can fight anyone.”
Barao added that he has started preparing for Menjivar, but, “I’ll fight anyone they tell me to.” He has won all three of his fights since joining the UFC.
