It seems like the all-heavyweight UFC 146 card is destined to continue to have issues.
After all the changes due to Alistair Overeem’s failed pre-fight drug test, another injury has hit the card.
Mark Hunt has been forced to pull out of a fight with Stefan Struve, allowing Lavar Johnson the opportunity to step in on short notice.
“I heard last night there was a chance I could get this fight and I accepted right away,” said Johnson, in an interview with the UFC’s website. “You don’t get chances like this too much in life, so when you are lucky, you got to make the most of it. I took one week off after last fight (May 5) and then went back to the gym.”
Johnson has knocked out Pat Barry and Joey Beltran in his first two UFC fights. He is 17-5 overall, including a 9-2 record since 2008.
Struve (23-5) has won two straight, defeating Dave Herman and Barry since a loss to Travis Browne.
