Chad Mendes-Cody McKenzie Added To UFC 148

An interesting featherweight bout has been added to the July 7 UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II card, as former No. 1 contender Chad Mendes takes on Cody McKenzie.

The UFC’s official site posted the bout, saying both fighters have verbally agreed to face off.

UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II will feature Chael Sonnen looking to secure the UFC middleweight title from Anderson Silva. It is not known where the Mendes-McKenzie bout will take place, but the prelims is a likely spot for it.

Mendes suffered his first career loss to UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo earlier this year, suffering a first round knockout defeat.

McKenzie has won his last 11 fights by guillotine choke, including a victory over Marcus LeVesseurat UFC on FUEL TV: Korean Zombie vs. Poirier. This will be his first fight at featherweight.

How does this fight make sense?  should have been George Roop vs. Cody Mackenzie.  Mendes vs. Nunes.   Hopefully Cody can make a fight of it.  Her certainly is a game opponent for most people.
