UFC Lightweight Title Shot Not On Edson Barboza’s Mind Right Now

Edson Barboza shot up the UFC’s lightweight rankings with a spinning heel kick-knockout victory over Terry Etim earlier this year.

Now, with a match against Jamie Varner set for UFC 146, Barboza is only concerned with improving himself each and every day, as he told LowKick.com in a recent interview.

I want to be fighting the best fighters in the world. I want to win my space step-by-step. I am not in a hurry. I know I am in a really hard division, and it keeps me motivated to train harder and harder. Today, I am focused on my next fight. I want to do my best inside the Octagon.

Barboza is a perfect 10-0 in his career, including four victories with the UFC. Along with defeating Etim, the 26-year-old owns wins over Ross Pearson, Anthony Njokuani and Mike Lullo.

“Junior” was expected to face Evan Dunham in a key lightweight tilt in regards to rankings, but Dunham was injured and replaced by Varner, who is returning to Zuffa after being released from the WEC.
