Hand Injuries For Both Daniel Cormier, Josh Barnett After Their Five-Round Battle

Newly-crowned Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier didn’t leave his fight with Josh Barnett anywhere near 100-percent. And, for that matter neither did Barnett.

During the post-fight press conference Saturday evening after Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier, “DC” revealed he likely suffered another broken right hand on a punch that connected on Barnett. Previously, Cormier broke the hand when he knocked out Antonio Silva to reach the finals, and re-injured it in training.

Barnett, in the post-fight interview inside the cage, also mentioned a possible hand injury. His manager, confirmed that there was likely something broken in an interview with MMA Junkie’s Steven Marrocco.

The future for Cormier and Barnett is a large unknown now. The heavyweight division has been absorbed by the UFC, but there was mention of a “plus-one” bout taking place in Strikeforce for the winner. Also, it remains to be seen if either, or both, fighters will be signed up to the UFC’s deep roster.
