Stefan Struve has been inside the Octagon with the likes of Roy Nelson, Travis Browne and Pat Barry. Struve’s opponent this coming Saturday at UFC 146, Lavar Johnson, doesn’t strike “Skyscraper” as all the threatening.
“I think a lot of fans know Lavar because of his last two fights (in the UFC,” said Struve, in a recent interview with Andy Samuelson of MMA Junkie. “In his last two fights last year in Strikeforce, he lost via submission. Then, he almost got submitted in his fight against Pat Barry. That tells me a lot.”
Struve (23-5) has won 15 of his career bouts via submission. Three of his last four UFC wins, however, have come via knockout.
Johnson, on the other hand, is 17-5 with four of those five defeats coming by way of submission. The Strikeforce losses Struve was eluding to came against Shawn Jordan and Shane del Rosario in 2011. “Big” has knocked out Barry and Joey Beltran in the first round in his first two UFC bouts.
