Antonio Silva ‘Couldn’t See Straight’ After Cain Velasquez Bloodied His Face

Antonio Silva didn’t have the kind of UFC debut he was likely hoping for at UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir.

After firing off a kick, Cain Velasquez took Silva to the ground and landed a sharp elbow that bloodied the face of “Big Foot” into a crimson mess. The Octagon-side doctor checked the cut, and even asked Silva if he could see. It turns out, as he informed Tatame in a recent interview, Silva gave the doctor false information.

The referee interrupted the fight at the spot, but this part he might analyze what the doctors say. One of the doctors asked me if I could see a think and I didn’t answer because I wanted to keep on going. Then he asked me again and I said yes. If I had said I couldn’t see straight they would stop the contest and I didn’t want that. I couldn’t see a think, there was a lot of blood and my eyes were burning.

Silva continued to try and push forward, but Velasquez – a former UFC heavyweight champion – never allowed him a second chance. As for his next opponent, Silva is awaiting word on an X-ray for a possible broken nose that would keep him out of action for several months.
