Brett Okamoto, who covers MMA for ESPN, has reported on his Twitter account that Nick Diaz was paid $300,000 on top of his payment for fighting to attend all media-related events prior to UFC 143.
Okamoto said the money was to compensate for the money that Diaz lost when UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre was forced out of their planned fight and to ensure Diaz showed up for the media events.
Diaz is currently suspended from receiving his fight license after testing positive for traces of marijuana in his system following a loss to Carlos Condit earlier this year in a bout to determine the interim UFC welterweight champion. Diaz, who announced his retirement after the fight, said he would return to MMA if the suspension was lifted.
