Rory MacDonald has no interest in fighting UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
However, that doesn’t mean someone that has worn UFC gold isn’t on the mind of the rising prospect, as MacDonald informed Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour recently that BJ Penn would make for an ideal future opponent.
“Right now, I feel there’s a guy that I want to fight before he leaves the sport and that’s BJ Penn,” MacDonald said. “That’s a guy I really want to fight. I respect him a lot. He’s a legend and I think it’d be a really good match up for me to have that fight in Toronto.”
MacDonald is referring to a scheduled UFC 152 event on September 22 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. So far, no fights have been announced for the card.
Penn, a former multi-time champion in the UFC, informed UFC Tonight recently that he is warming up to the idea of another fight, but doesn’t see it happening in the immediate future. “The Prodigy” also said it would have to be a fight that makes sense for all involved.
MacDonald is 13-1, with the lone loss coming at the hands of current UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit.
