‘Shogun’ Rua Had No Interest In Fighting Glover Teixeira

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua informed the UFC that he would rather be cut than fight Glover Teixeira after having Thiago Silva pull out of a planned fight for UFC 149.

“He would rather be cut than fight him,” UFC president Dana White confirmed following the post-fight press conference for UFC on FX 3 to MMA Junkie’s Matt Erickson.

Rua will now face Brandon Vera in the main event of UFC on FOX 4 in August after the planned main event for that card – Hector Lombard vs. Brian Stann – was derailed with Stann’s injury.

White also confirmed that Rua’s decision to say no to fighting Teixeira was because he wasn’t a top-10 fighter, but White added, “we offered him Brandon Vera and he took it in two seconds – and Vera isn’t top-1o, either.”

it was a loose – loose fight to Shogun. Winning the new guy wouldn’t had meant a step on the ladder and loosing to the new comer was the ruin for him. And loosing was an option to the animal that Texeira is, and perhaps not an option against Vera

Yea fighting him isn’t a win win situation for him but losing your job over not fighting him isn’t by any means a win win situation.
