Count former UFC multi-division champion Randy Couture among those that feel like testosterone replacement therapy doesn’t belong in MMA.
In a recent interview with MMA Weigh-In, “The Natural” gave his take on the use of TRT in the sport he once dominated. Couture retired last year following a knockout loss to Lyoto Machida.
“Obviously, Chael (Sonnen), (Nate) Marquardt, there’s been several athletes that have been using TRT,” Couture said. “I think for them, it’s not a function of really having depleted levels of testosterone; it’s wanting to have testosterone levels of a 21-year-old again. I understand it, I chose a little bit different path in trying to find natural ways to boost my testosterone levels and my body’s own production.”
Fighting into his 40s, Couture wore the UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight title. He still trains regularly, but is now involved in movies more than MMA. Couture will be returning to the big screen for The Expendables 2, which is slated for a release later this year.
