Javier Mendez Says Cain Velasquez Is Healthy

Javier Mendez, the head trainer and coach for Cain Velasquez, doesn’t feel the same way about his own fighter as Yuri Carlton, the jiu-jitsu coach for UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.

You see, Carlton believes that Velasquez will not be ready to rematch dos Santos for the title on September 22.

Mendez, as he explained to MMAFighting.com, says that date is a go for the ex-UFC heavyweight champ.

“We’re looking at September 22 as fight day,” Mendez said.

The coach went on to say that maybe Carlton didn’t ready the medical report for UFC 146 correctly, as it stated Velasquez would only be suspended until November if his hand was broken. X-rays showed that no break occurred in the win over Antonio Silva.

So, there you have it. Dos Santos-Velasquez II appears set to happen in September at UFC 152.
