Benson Henderson’s Ultimate Goal Remains Anderson Silva’s UFC Record

Anderson Silva will be attempting to defend his UFC middleweight title for a ninth time when he steps inside the Octagon to meet Chael Sonnen on July 7 at UFC 148.

Benson Henderson, the UFC lightweight champion, will be making his first title defense at UFC 150 on August 11 against Frankie Edgar.

For Henderson, his ultimate goal rests with Silva, as “Smooth” wants to go down in the history books as the fighter with the most successful title defenses.

“To be honest, I’ve said it before; I don’t care who they put in front of me, I want to get to Anderson Silva’s records,” said Henderson, during the recent UFC 150 kickoff press conference. “I want to dethrone him from the record books. If he’s at 12, 13 or 14 title defenses, I want to have one more above him.”

Henderson won the title from Edgar earlier this year. The nature of the decision left the UFC to grant an immediate rematch.

That’s a pretty high goal, especially in the lightweight division which is one of the more talent filled classes in the ufc,but Ben definitely seems like the guy to do it if anybody can
