Patrick Cote will make his return to the Octagon on July 7 at UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen 2 when he takes on Cung Le.
Cote, who once challenged Anderson Silva for the UFC middleweight title in 2008, is returning after being released from the UFC in 2010. He has strung together four consecutive victories since a three-fight losing skid led to his dismissal.
“The Predator” feels so confident in his abilities, that he believes another shot at the UFC title is in his future, as he wrote in his latest blog entry for SportsNet.ca.
I wouldn’t bother coming back and making a go of things if I did think (the title shot in ’08) was my last. I’m still young at 32 years of age and know for a fact I’m a much better fighter now than I was when I fought Anderson. I have more tools and skills and less weaknesses than I had back then.
On the same card as Cote-Le, Silva will face Chael Sonnen for a second time. Sonnen gave “The Spider” all he could handle in 2010, and will be looking to finish the job this time around.
It will be interesting to see how Sonnen approaches his rematch with Silva. Personally, I think Silva crushes Sonnen this time around. Unlike last time, he won’t be surprised about the pace or strength of Sonnen, and we could be in for a classic Anderson Silva performance. I think he wins before the end of the third round, probably by knockout.
Cote is 17-7 in his career, with his last three losses coming to Silva, Alan Belcher and Tom Lawlor.
