UFC president Dana White isn’t afraid to go out on a limb when trying to get his point across.
While White has been wrong before, he feels like saying tonight’s UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II main event between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will in fact be not only the biggest rematch, but biggest fight, in UFC history.
“We have all kinds of ways to tell how a fight is trending, and this fight has been No. 1 on all the trending lists,” said White, during a recent interview with ESPN. He added that the card is slated to gross $7 million at the gate.
In comparison, the event many say is atop the UFC’s charts is UFC 100. The card, back in 2009, drew 10,871 people for a gate of just over $5.1 million and garnered 1.6 million buys through pay-per-view.
