Luke Rockhold Wants To Prove Strength Of Strikeforce Fighters

Luke Rockhold wears the Strikeforce middleweight title around his waist.

Saturday night, Rockhold will defend the belt against Tim Kennedy in the main event of Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy on Showtime.

Unless you’ve been a close follower of MMA, you might not have any idea that this fight is going down, or who Rockhold or Kennedy are.

That’s one reason Rockhold wants to make a statement against the former military veteran when they step inside the cage from Portland’s Rose Garden.

“I’m fighting to legitimize myself and keep bettering myself,” said Rockhold, during a recent press conference. “They need to realize how good we (Strikeforce fighters) are and if they haven’t seen that then they don’t know what they are missing.”

Rockhold added that he wants to “prove to everyone that I am one of the best in the world.” The middleweight division in MMA is led by UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, but the next few slots appear to be open for the taking.

In his first title defense, Rockhold defeated UFC veteran Keith Jardine. He is 9-1 in his career, with six submission victories.
