Nate Marquardt, Tyron Woodley Offer Up Final Insights Before Meeting For Strikeforce Welterweight Title

Strikeforce will finally crown a welterweight champion on Saturday night, as Tyron Woodley and Nate Marquardt meet for the crown in the co-main event of Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy.

The main card takes place on Showtime. The Marquardt-Woodley bout will be five rounds.

For Marquardt, this is his first fight since early last year when he defeated Dan Miller. He is a former UFC fighter who sports a career record of 31-10-2.

“I am expecting to knock him out,” said Marquardt, during a recent press conference. “This layoff has rejuvenated me and I’m ready to go.”

Woodley, meanwhile, has won his first 10 professional fights since a standout wrestling career at the University of Missouri. He holds wins over Paul Daley and Andre Galvao to his resume.

“I think Nate has been around the block for a while,” Woodley said. “I think he brings a lot to the table. I think he is a well-rounded fighter. Most of the guys in the division I’ve already beat or I’ve beat someone who has beat them. I have no issue with him coming over and getting the title shot.”

The main event for the card features Luke Rockhold defending his Strikeforce middleweight title against Tim Kennedy.
