Tim Kennedy served in the United States Army while fighting in MMA as a professional. Now, with his complete focus on the sport of martial arts, Kennedy is ready to secure the Strikeforce middleweight title.
Kennedy will face Luke Rockhold for the belt tonight in the main event of Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy. The main card airs on Showtime, while the prelims are available on Showtime Extreme.
Since 2007, the only loss Kennedy has suffered came to Ronaldo Souza. He owns wins over Robbie Lawler and Melvin Manhoef in his last two bouts, but has not competed since almost a year ago due to a horrific toe injury suffered in training.
The winner of the Army’s Bronze Star Medal got his big toe caught while throwing a punch and had the toe nearly ripped clean off. He’s since had surgery, and is ready to represent the military to the best of his abilities vs. Rockhold.
“We are going to step in there and go 25 minutes to prove that,” said Kennedy, during a recent press conference. “I think the best way for me to represent the military community is for me to win this fight. We both want to demonstrate that we are the best fighter in our division.”
Kennedy is 14-3 overall in his career, with seven submission victories and five via knockout.
