UFC Middleweight No. 1 Contender Tourney Could Be On The Horizon

UFC president Dana White made remarks recently to MMA Fighting that would make it seem as if the promotion is looking into putting together a middleweight tournament to determine the next contender to Anderson Silva.

We’re working on some crazy shit right now – you know how I get. I am very excited about the 185-pound division. I will let the cat out of the bag on Saturday about what we are going to do.

This Saturday, middleweights Tim Boetsch and Hector Lombard will square off at UFC 149. Other fighters such as Michael Bisping, Vitor Belfort, Alan Belcher, Chris Weidman and Brian Stann all appear wanting to gain a crack at “The Spider.”

Putting together a tournament would also seem to fit with Silva, which usually does not compete more than once a year. This way, the UFC can build up the top contender, making it more of a high-profile match.

Saturday? Hmmm guess its either hector or Lombard.

Since when does Silva fight only once a year? Silvas been in the Ufc since 2006 and has 16 consecutive victories in the Ufc. That’s nearly 3 fights a year!

You should put Rashad Evans into the tourney also, since he also wants a piece of the Spider. If he wants a piece of the Spider, make him earn it.

That would be cool but the fact that they’re not willing to do one night tournaments kinda sucks,I think a 2rnd semi final and a 3 rnd final would be awesome for a one night tourney with the winner of sat, facing weidman and the winner of belcher vs bisping fighting rashad

I didnt hear him say anything about a tournamnet and the only ones to mention that is other web sites of mma media. So basically its our fandom coming out and taking over and that part of the ufc is over with unfortunately bcuz LIGHTWEIGHT & WELTERWEIGHT are divisions in need of solutions or conclusions to who is next and when. Middleweight already has a tourny with Stann vs Bisping, Lombard vs Boetsch, and Belcher and Weidman possible being faced off against one another and the final matchup could be Munoz vs Belfort. I believe its better to keep the line of contenders moving and eliminating all those top 10 185ers would be dumb cuz zuffa could sell each individual fight as possible contenders matches. Weidman should be only 1 win away at this point unless Joe Silva and Dana have Lombard in mind if he wins tomorrow. Why make a lombard vs Weidman match and rule out two top contenders ? Give Weidman another fight cuz he has proven himself a safe win against top guys like Belcher heck even Belfort would be defeated by him while Lombard has the most to prove from ufc jitters and upsets we see hyped up fighters outside the octagon fences. Lombard would sell the best I think cuz we already believe he could beat anderson years ago. Give Anderson an opponent and let the others fight for the next billing making Silva fight more frequent sohe doesnt sit out while we get rid of these contenders in a division that has been as a deep as a puddle in my backyard. we finally have some names at 185 and all fans want to do is get rid of them as soon as possible . nonsense.

by the way in support of Hector Lombard’s case of # 1 contendership – 1 win is enough just ask Anderson he recieved his title shot after beating Chris Leben who was right around where Tim Boetsch is now in the rankings, add also we didnt really know who he was and how goo he was then right who really knew that much about him ? Hector Lombard is known by almost all hardcores and relevants plus he has a better record than Anderson did then and hadnt lost to no names like the spider did he lost to Gegard Mousassi who is a top fighter. Ryo Chonan ? Daji Tasaskwhatever ??

It’s like…i don’t even read who wrote the article. But then, the grammar and syntax always let me know when Dana Becker has written a piece. Jeepers, do you spell check even once?
