UFC Has Big Plans For Alexander Gustafsson

Have no fear Sweden, your prized UFC light heavyweight will return to the Octagon very soon.

When Alexander Gustafsson returns, and who he fights, however, remains an unknown.

During a media conference call on Monday, UFC president Dana White informed the masses that Brandon Vera and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua’s match this Saturday night at UFC on FOX 4 will be to become the No. 1 contender.

Many believed that Gustafsson, coming off a minor injury and a victory over Thiago Silva, could be the fighter waiting in the wings to challenge UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

“He is ready for a big fight,” White said. “We will get him lined up with one of the top guys and find out where he fits in.”

Since a 2010 loss to Phil Davis via submission, Gustafsson has won four consecutive bouts. He scored a decision victory over Silva in his native country earlier this year to improve to 14-1.
