Last week, UFC president Dana White made mention of the most impressive winner from Saturday’s UFC on FOX 4 event earning a future shot at the UFC light heavyweight title.
On Monday, White stated that the winner of the main event between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Brandon Vera would be the No. 1 contender.
Well, a day later, White has changed back to his original opinion.
Now, the co-main event between Ryan Bader and Lyoto Machida could factor into the decision-making when it comes to determining a new contender to the belt.
“I put together the fights that fans want to see,” said White, in an interview with USA Today. “The fans didn’t like the Rua and Vera choice, so here it is: the guy that wins most impressively on Saturday night out of the co-main event and main event will get the shot at the winner of Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson.”
Jones and Henderson are set to meet in early September at UFC 151.
So, it appears to be pretty clear now. Bader, Machida, Rua and Vera all have an opportunity to cement their status as a contender, unless of course none of them do that, than we are still left in muddy waters.
