TUF Finalist Al Iaquinta Working His Way Back To Health

Al Iaquinta made a quick run to the finals of The Ultimate Fighter 15 before falling to Michael Chiesa.

Iaquinta, who trains with with Serra-Longo Fight Team, is currently on the sidelines from a knee injury suffered in his semifinal round win over Vinc Pichel on the show.

“In my TUF semifinal fight against Vinc Pichel, we clashed shins and knees on a few occasions,” Iaquinta said. “I figured it was just badly bruised, but about a month after the show had ended, it was still bothering me to the point that I couldn’t train. I got an MRI and it showed that I had torn cartilage under my knee cap.”

Iaquinta had surgery to have the torn piece of cartilage removed to have that space repaired. He said he’ll likely be on crutches for the next month before being able to rehab his way to health.

While his recovery time is unknown, Iaquinta did say he plans to fight against inside the Octagon.

“(The UFC has) not said anything to me about a future fight yet,” the New York-native said. “At this point, I am just trying to get my knee healed up and get back in the gym.”

Iaquinta is 5-2-1 since turning pro in 2009, with two TKO victories and a submission triumph to his credit.
