Bellator has agreed to terms with former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral on a contract, the promotion announced recently.
Sobral is expected to compete in early 2013 in a light heavyweight tournament for Bellator.
Recently, Sobral improved to 37-9 in his career with a submission win over Tatsuya Mizuno for ONE Fighting Championships.
“I’m really happy to be a part of the Bellator family,” Sobral said.
Bjorn Rebney, Bellator’s CEO, added, “‘Babalu’ is an awesome addition to the Bellator family. He’s beaten some of the greatest fighters in the sport, and poses a tremendous threat to every fighter in our light heavyweight division.”
Sobral lost the Strikeforce title to Dan Henderson in late 2010 via knockout. He also lost to Henderson in 2000.
