Daniel Cormier Wants Fight With Frank Mir To Be For Strikeforce Heavyweight Title

Daniel Cormier won the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix title. However, there is still a divisional belt floating around somewhere, and Cormier would like to add that one to his collection, as well.

Cormier is currently set to face former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir sometime later this year. An exact date is unknown, but the bout will air on Showtime.

“I would like it to be for the Strikeforce champion because I’d like to actually put that belt on my mantle too,” said Cormier, in a recent interview with MMA Fight Corner. “I think it should be for the Strikeforce heavyweight title.”

Cormier is expected to move into the UFC’s heavyweight division after the fight. Mir is coming off a loss to UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.

“If they find it within themselves to make it for the belt, I’d be very pleased,” the former Olympian said. “I’ve been chuggin’ along, and if I get through this fight, that’s three Top-10 guys in a row. I should be in line for a (shot at the UFC title).”
