Former Strikeforce bantamweight champion Miesha Tate survived a rough opening round to submit Julie Kedzie Saturday night in the main event of the prelim portion of Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman.
Tate, who dropped the title to Ronda Rousey earlier this year after having her own arm put in an armbar, locked the submission in deep on Kedzie and had to hold on to it for over two minutes before getting the tap.
“It felt good,” Tate said. “I got that armbar in there and wasn’t going to let go.”
Tate said she worked on her ground attack after the loss to Rousey, saying she had the, “Eye of the tiger,” Saturday evening in San Diego.
As for the main event of the same card, Tate went with Rousey to defend her belt against Sarah Kaufman but added, “a second won’t go by where I won’t enjoy watching (Rousey) get punched in the face by Kaufman.”
