Fighting Has Helped Randy Couture Grow Closer To Son

Former UFC champion Randy Couture knows that his son, Ryan, placed himself in a difficult situation by deciding to follow in dad’s footsteps.

However, by entering the sport of MMA, Ryan has been able to grow even closer to Randy in the past few years, something “The Natural” has embraced.

Since retiring from fighting following a loss to Lyoto Machida, Randy has kept himself busy by helping bring Ryan up in the sport. Of course, he’s also been in such films as The Expendables and The Expendables 2 opposite several big-name stars.

“I’m kind of making up for some lost time in a lot of ways,” said Randy, during a recent interview with UFC.com. “Most people don’t get that opportunity, but I’ve been fortunate to have him as close as I get to have him to me right now. I’m just enjoying the ride.”

Ryan is an up-and-coming lightweight in Strikeforce. He has put together a 5-1 record, including a recent victory over Joe Duarte. His next opponent is currently unknown.

“We’re in the same environment, we are striving for the same things,” Randy said. “He studies all the fighters just like I do, and we talk about all those things. In a lot of ways, we’re wired a lot alike.”
