Lightweights Joe Lauzon, Gray Maynard Booked For UFC 155

Though UFC 155 has not yet been confirmed by the UFC as far as an exact location or card number, the lineup is starting to fill up rather fast.

UFC officials announced on Monday that lightweights Joe Lauzon and Gray Maynard will square off at the year-end event.

UFC 155 is rumored for December 29 in Las Vegas. The card already features UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos taking on former champion Cain Velasquez, and former middleweight contender Chael Sonnen entering the 205-pound division against ex-champion Forrest Griffin.

Lauzon (22-7) has become the “Bonus Man” in the UFC. Earlier this month, “J-Lau” scored both Fight of the Night and Submission of the Night honors for his victory over Jamie Varner. Lauzon, who wons 18 career submission wins, has picked up 11 UFC fight-night bonuses – a record for the promotion.

Maynard (11-1-1) jumped back into the title picture at 155 by earning a decision over Clay Guida earlier this year. “The Bully” was coming off a loss to Frankie Edgar in a bout for the UFC lightweight title.

It actually came out that Anderson Silva has previously undisclosed bonuses, and thus has 12 “of the night” bonuses to Joe’s 11.

Pretty good matchup. Lauzon isn’t going to run away all night, and might actually make for an interesting striking match (I doubt Maynard goes into wrestler mode unless he gets rocked).

I agree, Maynard hasn’t been going to wrestling unless he has to lately. Problem is, in his last 6 fights he has 3 split decisions, 1 loss, 1 draw, and 1 UD. That isn’t very impressive. Especially since I think he lost to Nate Diaz and that Clay fight was very close IMO.

I think Cardio will play a huge factor in this fight. If Lauzon doesn’t gas, he will catch Maynard with his fists or in a choke.

Maynard was locked in such an intense feud with Edgar, I think he didn’t have his complete focus on Guida when they met up. Plus, the approach Guida took really seemed to throw Maynard off his game. The only chance Lauzon has is to catch him early; otherwise, I feel as if Maynard will put a beatdown on him in the second round.

    Tough fight for Lauzon…
