Move Over Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort Will Be Next Challenger To Jon Jones

Everyone, meet the next challenge to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Vitor Belfort, who was slated to face Alan Belcher at middleweight, will replace Lyoto Machida and take on Jones for the title at UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort on September 22 from Toronto.

“I will fight Jones,” Belfort posted on Twitter early Friday morning. “I want to thank his camp and him to accept this big challenge for me. I am so happy to deliver a big show for the whole world.”

So, over the past day or so, we have went from Jones vs. Dan Henderson, to Jones vs. Chael Sonnen, to Jones vs. Lyoto Machida, to Jones vs. Belfort. Let’s hope the last one sticks.

UPDATE: It also appears that Mauricio “Shogun” Rua turned down the fight with Jones before the UFC asked Belfort. LA Times writer Lance Pugmire posted on Twitter early Friday morning, “(Lorenzo Fertitta) tells me Shogun Rua turned down shot at Jones to set up Belfort as Sept. 22 opponent.”
