Maybe Forrest Griffin Isn’t The Next Opponent For Chael Sonnen

Former UFC middleweight contender Chael Sonnen was asked about his fighting future while helping promote a Full Contact Fight Federation event this past weekend.

Sonnen, who announced that he would debut in the light heavyweight division this December against former UFC champion Forrest Griffin, didn’t confirm the fight as still being on.

“We’ll see,” said Sonnen, in an interview with MMAjunkie.com. “There’s going to be some news coming out on me soon. We’ll see how things play out. Stay tuned.”

Sonnen agreed to step in and face Jon Jones for the UFC title after Dan Henderson was knocked out of the fight with a knee injury. Jones, however, declined the fight.

UFC president Dana White has stated that Sonnen would need more than one convincing win to secure a future title shot, but his willingness to step up on short notice and face “Bones” may have lessened that stance.

I think Sonnen vs. Rashad makes the most sense. Especially since Rashad said he wants to drop to 185.

They’re gonna throw a monkey wrench at lyoto since he didn’t want to fight Jones ins September and make sonnen vs machida,it’ll sell because of sonnens previous beef with Brazilian fighters and team black house in particular,it gives chael the opportunity to rise to number1 contender fast and the possibility of Jones vs sonnen after all the drama that has happened lately it would make sense

Maybe Sonnen Vs Machida? There’s been some tension there. Maybe even Shogun vs Sonnen? MAybe Dana wants to punish the people who turned down fights.
