Erik Koch Out, Frankie Edgar In To Face Jose Aldo At UFC 153

USA Today has learned that an injury to Erik Koch has forced his exit from a planned October meeting with UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.

Frankie Edgar, who recently announced that he would make his debut in the featherweight division, will step in and face Aldo at UFC 153 in Brazil.

UFC president Dana White said he found out Thursday that Koch was injured, and went right to Edgar about stepping in.

“I’m pumped,” White said. “I think that people are going to be very excited for this fight.”

Edgar dropped down from lightweight after a pair of losses to Benson Henderson in title matches. He is 14-3-1 in his career.

Aldo (21-1) is a perfect 3-0 since becoming the first UFC 145-pound champion.

2nd best fight of the year in my book after rampage jackson vs glover. Very sexual indeed.

Are you not excited to see JDS/Velasquez 2?

      • I like sexy time

No because of the way jd finished Cain so easy now after 1 win Cains fighting him again because there’s no one left to fight jd. Him fighting overseen would have been the best fight but drug head couldn’t keep clean

Makes you wonder if Koch had a “$100,000″ injury. Not many people were excited about seeing Koch vs. Aldo, but Aldo vs. Edgar will sell. Seems oftly convient to me

  • Naro

Yeah, that is a good fight, Expect to see Edgar smashed by an Aldo`s knee and then coming back and taking the fight

  • Ben Rage

This fight is happening too soon. I wanted to see Edgar pick up a win or two first. I think Aldo is the better fighter and I don’t want to see Edgar becoming the next Kenny Florian; a guy who has great skill but can’t stay relevant in his respected division because he’s been beat by the champs. Frankie Edgar is awesome, but he’s a boxer and a wrestler. Aldo is pretty much everything, great striker (and kicker), Great BJJ, and good wrestling with great take down defense.
