According To Freddie Roach, GSP Not Interested In Move From Welterweight

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre recently returned to full MMA training after receiving medical clearance.

St-Pierre is scheduled to face Carlos Condit to unify the UFC welterweight crown in November at UFC 154.

However, there seems to be growing interest from UFC executives and UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in pairing “The Spider” with GSP down the road.

One man, Freddie Roach, informed Fight Hub TV recently that St-Pierre has told him he has no interest in changing weight classes.

Georges has told me he’s not comfortable changing weight. He likes the weight he’s fighting at and feels that’s where he’s at his best. I don’t think that fights really going to happen, as (Silva’s) too big for him.

St-Pierre (22-2) will be competing for the first time in over a year when he faces Condit in Montreal.

    I agree.

Yup! Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones makes better sense.

He doesn’t have to move up in weight class, they can fight a catch weight of 180. No belts no weight classes. Money talks, and I bet this fight will happen early 2013, assuming GSP beats Condit.

GSP has always talked about being the best this sport has ever had, he has to be aware that someone has to beat Anderson for him to move into that role. It’s a tough fight for both fighters. GSP will be giving up weight and fighting a better striker, Anderson will be facing another dominate wrestler which seems to be his biggest weakness.

This fight is big money/big opportunity for both fighters, and it’s very likely going to happen.

Yeah, I agree with ya Matt…..seems like it might be a mega-fight with no titles on the line. Then, GSP faces Hendricks/Kampmann winner and Silva faces Stann/Bisping/Weidman winner.

The risk/reward for GSP just doesn’t make sense. He’d be the most dominant fighter in history to be such a lopsided underdog.

Auh, this can be sad news for some his fans. I am GSP’s fan, but I wasn’t really that sad about his disinterest in changing weights. It’s actually a good move to stay tight and better in the competitions. Some would probably want to see how he would go whenever he decides to go for it, but I am already contented this way.
